Finger Furniture seeks to lease former Lack's store
Clute, Texas, location is 50 miles from Houston
Heath E Combs -- Furniture Today, March 9, 2011
CLUTE, Texas — Retailer Finger Furniture is seeking lease rights to a former Lack's Home Furnishings store located here.
According to a lease agreement subject to bankruptcy court approval, Finger will rent about 34,500 square feet at the store, which is about 50 miles from Houston near the Texas coast.
Rodney Finger, president and CEO, said that assuming the court approves the transaction, the location will reopen as a Finger Furniture store.
Finger, which currently has two Houston-area stores, began to open locations last year after debt problems and the recession had forced it out of the business.
If the Clute lease is approved, Finger will join Top 100 companies Rooms To Go and RoomStore in leasing former Lack's locations. Each of those companies has leased a pair of former Lack's Stores in Texas, and said they plan to pursue further growth in the state.
Lack's and Finger executed an Assumption and Assignment of Lease for the Clute store on March 1. The bankruptcy court will hear the motion later this month.
Lack's filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November and closed its remaining 36 Texas stores.
Other store locations including those in Port Lavaca and Austin also have been sought by individuals, according to court records.
