Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards entries due June 1

Program salutes best home furnishings designs

Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 21, 2011

NEW LONDON, N.C. — The American Society of Furniture Designers is accepting entries for the 16th annual Pinnacle Design Achievement Awards through June 1.

Saluting the best home furnishings designs in a number of categories, the 2011 Pinnacles will be presented at an awards banquet on Oct. 24, during the fall High Point Market. Entry forms and supplemental information about entering are available now at http://www.asfd.com/Downloads/.

"The Pinnacle Awards provide us the opportunity of recognizing the work of talented designers, and are a great way for our industry to honor companies which support and encourage originality of thought and design innovation," said ASFD President Dudley Moore Jr., a designer with Otto & Moore in High Point.

"The addition of the Green Leaf Award in 2010 took the Pinnacles to another level, where sustainable design became synonymous with good design. The Pinnacles truly do represent what is best about our industry," Moore said.

Furniture/Today continues as the major underwriter of the Pinnacle Awards.

The 2011 Pinnacle sponsors are AF Lighting, Continental Brass, EarthCare Inside, Furniture Design Studios, High Point Market Authority, Hickory Springs Mfg., Home Furnishings Business, the International Home Furnishings Center, Leggett & Platt, Market Square & Suites and The Sherwin-Williams Co.

Judges have been named for the 2011 awards. They are Richard Bennington, High Point University; Mary Brehm, Norwalk Furniture & Design, Raleigh, N.C.; Amelia Ellenstein, Art Van Furniture, Warren, Mich.; Jackie Hirschhaut, American Home Furnishings Alliance; Michael Lennon, City Furniture, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Bruce Mulder, Kendall College of Art & Design; Sheila Long O'Mara, Home Furnishings Business; Connie Post, Connie Post Global Media; Dianne Ray, Garden City Furniture, Garden City, S.C.; Thomas Russell, Furniture/Today; Shane Spiller, Spiller Furniture, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and Rhonda Wolf, Havertys Furniture, Atlanta.

Pinnacle finalists will be released and posted on the ASFD website following the judging in late June. Winners will be revealed at the 2011 Pinnacle Awards Banquet on Monday evening, Oct. 24, in the IHFC Ballroom during the fall High Point Market.
