Los Angeles, CA., – October 27, 2016 – Iconic mattress retailerSit ‘n Sleep announced today that it teamed with Tempur Sealy International, Inc. to donate two thousand Tempur-Pedic mattresses to LA Family Housing, a regional leader providing solutions to end homelessness in people’s lives.
The impact of this donation will extend far beyond the Veteran community. The Tempur-Pedic mattresses being donated will be distributed to formerly homeless families and individuals throughout Los Angeles who have recently found homes through LA Family Housing.
“Sit ‘n Sleep is proud to team up with Tempur-Pedic for this unprecedented donation that we hope will bring awareness to the homeless issue that our city and nation faces,” said Larry Miller, CEO, Sit ‘n Sleep. “A good night’s sleep is not a privilege; everyone deserves a healthy, safe, comfortable bed and a restful night of sleep. Sleep is essential to overall wellbeing and we hope that these mattresses provide relief to those in need.”
Some statistics for perspective:
• 44,000 people experience homelessness each night in the County of Los Angeles
• 28,000 people experience homelessness each night in the City of Los Angeles
• It takes $5,400 to move a family into a new, permanent home
• LA Family Housing helped 6,400 people in 2015
“I can’t thank Sit ‘n Sleep and Tempur-Pedic enough for the commitment they have made to our veterans and formerly homeless neighbors. The costs associated with moving in to a new apartment are often overwhelming—just think back to when you moved in to a brand new home. This contribution is critical to easing the move-in process, and equally critical to breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty for thousands of Angelenos.” said Stephanie Klasky-Gamer, President & CEO, LA Family Housing.
The event to recognize the homeless veterans living at LA Family Housing Bridge Housing is being held on Thursday, November 10 th from 10:30AM – 1:00PM. Media is invited to join us as we replace mattresses in the Veterans wing and enjoy a BBQ lunch for all of the LA Family Housing residents and staff. Miller, Klasky-Gamer and Steve Rusing, Senior Vice President, US Sales for Tempur-Pedic North America, LLC will make remarks.
“It is an incredible privilege for Tempur-Pedic to give back to these deserving veterans who have sacrificed so much for their country,” said Rusing. “We are fortunate to have such great collaborators on this project in Sit ‘n Sleep and LA Family Housing to bring better quality sleep to those who most need it throughout the Los Angeles area.”
