Four new members join Sustainable Furnishings Council board

Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 1, 2011

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Four new members have joined the Sustainable Furnishings Council's board of directors to replace those finishing their terms.

The five-year-old SFC, which has continued to add members each month and recently graduated the 500th participant in its GREENleaders Certified Sustainability Training program, said the new board members are:

• Mitchell Gold, co-founder of Mitchell Gold+Bob Williams, a design-driven furniture manufacturer, importer and retailer.

• Peggy Burns, co-owner of sustainability-oriented retailer Circle Furniture, Acton, Mass.

• Kathryn Fernholtz, executive director of sustainable wood consultancy Dovetail Partners.

• Mary Jane Grigsby, president-elect of National Council for Interior Design Qualification.

"We are honored to have them join the cause and help lead our organization in new directions. Activation at the consumer level is critical and this will primarily come from our efforts at retail, in the design world and through ongoing educational offerings," SFC President Jeff Hiller said in a press release.

Members completing their terms are Margaret Casey, director of programming for World Market Center; Gat Caperton, CEO of manufacturer Gat Creek; Cristina Loth, vice president of product innovation at Stanley Furniture; and David Mahood, principal at Olive Designs.

The SFC will elect new officers at its April board meeting.
