Hughes to Offer Quick Ship

RANDLEMAN, N.C. - Promotional upholstery producer Hughes Furniture will soon open a 200,000-square-foot distribution center here that will allow the company to develop a quick-ship program for its most popular sofa frames.
The facility should be completed in mid- to late May and will be fully operational by fall, said Bruce Hughes, president of the 22-year-old company.
"We're really excited about how this distribution center can help us grow our business," Hughes said. "A quick-ship program will allow us to service our customers faster...and they won't have to carry as much inventory."
The new distribution center, which is adjacent to the largest of the company's two factories, eventually will allow the company to add production lines in space now occupied by the shipping department, he explained.
The center features 40 loading docks and is suitable for a racking system, Hughes said, noting that five to 10 new employees will be needed
He said he hopes to launch the quick-ship program in October at the High Point Market. The program will include at least 10 of the company's best-selling sofa frames.
Last year, Hughes Furniture signed a licensing agreement with bedding major Serta International and produces much of its stationary upholstery, recliners and motion upholstery under the Serta brand name. Recliners also are produced under the Motion Eaze brand name.
