Young Launches Consulting Firm

Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, May 4, 2011

YoungYoungHIGH POINT - Longtime industry marketing executive Bud Young has launched CR Young Consulting, a full-service consulting firm for home furnishings manufacturers.
Young, who recently stepped down as vice president of marketing for rug maker Capel Inc. after 28 years with the company, has more than 40 years of experience in the industry. His firm will offer a range of consulting services in areas including exports, financing, marketing and product development.
"My goal in creating CR Young Consulting is to bring a new approach to servicing the home furnishings industry," said Young. "I am excited for this opportunity to share what I've learned throughout my career and to offer clients the services of people I've enjoyed working with, who are each experts in their fields."
Bruce Hric, former president and CEO of Capel Rugs and currently managing director with Essex Capital Group, will partner with CR Young to advise clients with capital needs. Responding to a shortage of traditional borrowing available to small and mid-size manufacturers and distributors in home furnishings, Essex has worked since 2003 in arranging alternate financing structures with non-bank specialty finance companies.
Young has also called upon Norm Sweeters, president of Sweeters Consulting, to offer his services to clients interested in sourcing floor coverings and related textiles out of India and Nepal. One of CR Young's early goals is to offer clients the opportunity to tap into fabric sourcing in India, which offers a variety of handmade textile products but has been viewed as a source primarily for area rugs.
Sarah Stroh Thornton, a principal in Trade Data Reports, a Stroh family business, will act as a textile design coordinator for CR Young clients who source out of India.
Another of CR Young's early projects will be to create a consortium of Southeastern home furnishings companies and to establish a permanent joint showroom for those companies at SOFA/ Source of Furniture + Accessories, the design center at the International Centre in Toronto. The project will allow participating companies to work collectively with the aim of increasing foreign market share, exploiting potential in the Canadian market and gaining exposure to the design community.
