Jack Rochelle, former Globe Furniture president, dies at 87

HIGH POINT — John "Jack" Hardin Rochelle, a former president of manufacturer Globe Furniture, has died at age 87.
Rochelle studied furniture design at the University of Michigan. During World War II, he was an officer in the Army's last horse cavalry regiment, and later was a captain in the Office of Strategic Services, the predecessor of the Central Intelligence Agency.
After the war, he became president of manufacturer Globe Furniture, an upholstery and case goods manufacturer based in High Point. Globe was acquired by textile manufacturer Burlington Inds. in 1966, and Rochelle retired from the company around 1970. He later worked as an industry consultant.
He was involved in the High Point community and helped establish local institutions such as the Furniture Club and the String and Splinter Club. He was a lifelong member of the board of directors of the International Home Furnishings Center.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
