Michael Amini | Kathy Ireland Home Designs to launch in 2017

AT THE MARKET — Two industry veterans, Michael Amini and Kathy Ireland, have finalized a joint agreement to create a new home furnishings line.

Michael Amini | Kathy Ireland Home Designs will debut this year, according to an announcement made by Amini, CEO of AICO/Amini Innovation Corporation, and Ireland, CEO and chief designers of Kathy Ireland Worldwide.

“We had the opportunity to meet Kathy and her team, and within a very short time in our conversation, we both knew there was a real chemistry developing,” Amini said. “There was a mutual passion to share ideas and develop something truly special for the home furnishings industry.”

Amini said that he had been considering adding a new style category to the AICO product portfolio, one that would address a broader, younger market at retail. He added that the new line will feature eclectic, casual designs reflecting Ireland’s brand and wide consumer appeal at “great price points.”

“Kathy Ireland and the brand she and her company have built enjoy an extraordinary relationship with this customer,” Amini said. “We have already started the design process on a fabulous and highly affordable major product introduction for the typical mid-America lifestyle.”

Ireland said she and her staff have long admired the Amini product line and “the man responsible” for the furniture. Listed as one of America’s most successful celebrities by Forbes magazine and as one of the country’s most successful self-made women, Ireland is at the helm of a brand listed at the 25th most powerful brand globally by License Global magazine and with annual merchandise sales of $2.6 billion, according to Forbes.

“We’re delighted to design something very special for retailers to offer and satisfy today’s customers’ more relaxed lifestyles,” Ireland said. “With Michael at the helm of this collaboration, we believe something wonderful is about to happen.”

The Michael Amini | Kathy Ireland Home Designs line is scheduled to launch in 2017. AICO President Martin Ploy said the company will finalize the launch date in coming weeks.

“We’re very pleased that Kathy Ireland Worldwide has joined our co-branded portfolio,” Ploy said. “This will expand our collections for retailers while maintaining excellence that is a hallmark of Michael Amini. Because of the large amount of SKUs and various collections within this offering, we will announce a launch date in the near future. As always, a major introduction from Michael Amini will require a spectacular presentation encompassing all facets of home furnishings teamed with an exciting debut event.”

In 2010, Michael Amini entered into an agreement with actress, artist and philanthropist Jane Seymour for a lifestyle furnishings line. The Michael Amini & Jane Seymour, A Design Collaboration collection will continue.

“Jane Seymour remains a very important part of our corporate family,” Ploy said. “Her long-term partnership with Michael Amini has produced extraordinary results, some that helped redefine industry styling with the glitz and glam looks of Hollywood and the many glimmering collections that followed.”

As the Upholstery/Style Editor for Furniture/Today, I spend my work hours studying the sloping curves of sofa frames, the intricacies of fabric and the nail head trim and button accents that function as jewelry on a piece of upholstery. I research the companies that bring these things together for retailers, and ultimately consumers, and interview industry leaders about their business strategies and where they think furniture is heading in the future. And when traveling, I provide a sneak peek at what I'm seeing, whether at international markets or in High Point or Las Vegas.

I look forward to sharing what I see and I hope you'll feel free to do the same. Email me at chodnett@furnituretoday.com or follow me on Twitter @CynthiaWHodnett.
