Singapore interior design contest receives global response

SINGAPORE – The Society of Interior Designers Singapore (SIDS) will announce the winners of its inaugural Singapore Interior Design Awards (SIDA) at the SIDA Awards Gala Dinner here March 8.

SIDS received more than 300 entries for the contest, which is the first competition here that is open to global entrants. The overseas entries have come from China, Japan, India, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and Europe, according to SIDS.

The awards recognize and honor design excellence in the global interior design industry and is open to practicing interior designers and architects. The aim of SIDA is to reach out to international interior design communities and create a platform to highlight their design abilities.

The Global Design Forum will take place in conjunction with the awards presentation and will feature speakers such as SIDS President Keat Ong and Steve Leung, president-elect of International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI).

“With Singapore attaining the status as a UNESCO Creative City of Design last year, it makes sense to create an international interior design award that caters to the world,” Ong said. “The strong response to our very first award – especially from overseas – is heartening for us and underscores the stature of this award on the global scale.”
