HOMEWOOD, Ala. — Mazer Discount Superstore, a longtime retailer of furniture, appliances and floor coverings in the Birmingham area, began a going-out-of-business sale today and will soon close its doors for good.
The company, operated by the Mazer family since 1932, has been struggling in recent years due to the slumping housing market and the recession, president Michael Mazer recently told the Birmingham News.
The retailer currently has about 250,000 square feet of retail and warehouse space at a single location in Homewood.
The store was honored with the National Buyer Appreciation Award from the Tupelo Furniture Market in February 2009.
