ORLANDO, Fla. — The Georgia Home Furnishings Assn. named its 2011-2012 leaders and presented its Retailer of Merit Award during the group's 57th annual convention last month at Disney's Contemporary Resort here.
Randy Bowlden, a sales representative for Craftmaster and Liberty Furniture based in St. Simons Island, Ga., was installed as GHFA president. Chad Mullins of Railway Freight in Albany, Ga., was named second vice president and Russell Turner of Turner's Ashley Furniture HomeStores, based in Thomasville, Ga., was named chairman.
Retailer Mark Weinberger of Weinberger's Furniture in Augusta, Ga., received the 2011 Retailer of Merit Award, recognizing outstanding characteristics and achievements.
Britt Beemer of America's Research Group was the keynote speaker at a banquet during the conference.
At a Best Ideas Contest sponsored by Uwharrie Chair, during which attendees shared tips to benefit companies' bottom line, David Cox of Woodstock Furniture Outlet, located in Woodstock, Ga., was voted as having the best idea. Cox suggested that retailers start a co-op organization through which funds for advertising could be contributed and distributed.
Following the Best Ideas Contest, Jerry Osteryoung, director of outreach at the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship in the College of Business at Florida State University, hosted an interactive business building session.
The GHFA convention also featured the annual Guardsman/Valspar sponsored mixed doubles tennis tournament and the Claude Bailey Memorial Golf Tournament.
