Panama Jack Furniture Line Debuting at Rooms To Go

Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, July 9, 2011

Old HavanaThis four-poster canopy bedroom group is part of the new Panama Jack Home Collection called Old Havana. Among the design elements are reeded and turned posts and woven cane on the headboard and cabinet door fronts.ORLANDO, Fla. - Lifestyle brand Panama Jack and Seffner, Fla.-based Rooms To Go have teamed up to develop two furniture collections for the Top 100 company's stores.
A Panama Jack case goods collection called Old Havana is rolling out this month at the retailer, which has stores in the Southeast and in Puerto Rico. A second collection, Eco Jack, will be in stores this summer.
Panama Jack said it also plans to launch the product at retailers outside Rooms To Go's market areas. Eventually, the line also is expected to include upholstery.
Old Havana is a 25-piece cherry veneered bedroom, dining room, occasional and home entertainment collection inspired by English antiques and the architecture of Old Havana seen throughout the Caribbean. Available in a hand-rubbed patina finish, it features wood pieces with woven cane insets on door panels and on the headboard of a four-poster canopy bed.
Case pieces feature elements such as turned feet, legs and posts and reeded effects on posts and pilasters. The collection also has a marble top sideboard with turned legs.
Old Havana beds retail at $899 and a dining table and four chairs retail at $1,099.
Eco Jack is a 35-piece, clean-lined group of bedroom, dining room, entertainment and youth furniture made of plantation-grown acacia in a mid-tone brown finish. Chairs and case pieces feature slat and raised panel construction. Signature pieces include an arched platform bed and sliding door chest with a pull-out rod for hanging clothes. A curio cabinet has room for glasses and wine bottles, while a steamer trunk bar has a fold-out top and slatted shelves.
Eco Jack beds retail at $599 and a table and four chairs retails at $799.
Founded in 1974, Panama Jack has developed a line of beach lifestyle products ranging from swimwear, sandals and shoes to hats, jewelry, beach chairs and umbrellas. In 2010, the company added luggage and beach cruiser bicycles to its lineup.
Old Havana and Eco Jack aim to convey the casual beach lifestyle in furniture with distinctive looks and materials, the company said.
Panama Jack has been in search of a brand partner in the furniture realm about four or five years, ago, but had shelved the idea when the economy went into recession, said Kim Manna, company president. It has been working with Rooms To Go for the past year.
Manna added that Panama Jack has developed marketing materials to help promote the brand in the stores.
"We are very excited about launching Panama Jack's new Home Collection with industry leader Rooms To Go," Manna said. "For years, we have been helping people live the Panama Jack lifestyle. Now they can enjoy Panama Jack's trademark style of fun, adventure and escape in their homes."
Officials also said the casual styles and price points are targeted to younger and "younger-minded" consumers in its core 25-54-year-old demographic.
Jack collectionThis bar unit in the new Eco Jack collection is made with plantation grown acacia in a midtone brown finish.     "Value, quality, ease and comfort - that was our mantra in designing and crafting our new collections," said Stephen Giles, a former Universal Furniture executive who designed the Panama Home Collection. "Both Old Havana and Eco Jack share the brand's lifestyle, but each has its own very distinct personality."
"This is something that will continue to build steam throughout the rest of this year and next year," added Manna. "It is a category and industry we are embracing because it seems to make the most sense for us."
