Group to Salute Century, MacKenzie-Dow

Made in AmericaCentury’s display at the Made in America exhibit in Washington at the DC Design Center and the Lincoln Cottage will include this 44-217 settee and 11-819 side chairsHICKORY, N.C. - Two U.S. furniture manufacturers will be honored July 4 by Made: In America, a Washington-based nonprofit educational group that seeks to help revitalize U.S. commerce in a global economy.
     Century Furniture will receive the group's 2011 Best: Made in America Award, recognizing the case goods and upholstery manufacturer and its employees for their outstanding U.S.-made products.
     Case goods source MacKenzie- Dow Fine Furniture has received the organization's 2011 Build It in America Award.
     Both awards are the result of a year-long effort by the organization to identify best business practices at companies that are committed to a U.S. manufacturing model. The awards also are aimed at heightening public awareness of U.S.-made products and showcasing the companies and the people that create them.
     The companies will receive their awards at an annual Take Pride in America celebration held at the U.S. Capitol on July 4.
     Hickory-based Century was founded in 1947 by Harley F. Shuford and is in its third generation of family ownership and operation.
     "We are humbled and gratified to be selected for this honor," said President and CEO Eric Schenk. "Throughout Century's history we have always tried to not only produce the highest quality furniture we can, but also uphold the highest standards of corporate citizenship."
Dow Fine FurnitureGary Adams, left, and Bonner Adams are owners of MacKenzie-Dow Fine Furniture.     Based in Huntington, West Va., MacKenzie-Dow was formed in 2002 and produces case goods of solid black cherry. It distributes its line in more than 265 residential furniture stores and 20 design centers.
     "We are excited to be recognized for our efforts alongside some of the most respected names in the furnishings industry," said CEO Gary Adams. "Our team of craftsmen works very hard to produce some of the most unique and exquisite pieces in our country."
