Maximo Opens First U.S. Store in San Antonio
Heath E Combs -- Furniture Today, July 13, 2011
SAN ANTONIO - Maximo Furniture, a Mexico-based furniture retailer with 10 locations in North America, has opened its first U.S. store here and says it plans to open more locations in the country.
Maximo has stores in Mexico City, Cancun, Querartero and other cities in Mexico. It was launched about 25 years ago by Mexico City-based furniture manufacturer Maderichi.
According to its website, Maximo chose San Antonio because of its proximity to Maderichi and the opportunities afforded by NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Act.
Maximo's U.S. operations here are led by Jorge Reyes Altamirano, president of Maximo U.S.A. Maximo offers a variety of furniture for the dining room, living room and bedroom, as well as accent pieces. A press release also said Maximo plans to launch a luxury brand called Dettaglio this year.
A story in the San Antonio Express-News said the retailer plans to open two additional Maximo stores and three Dettaglio stores in Texas. It added that the highest priced item in the San Antonio showroom is a seven-piece dining group at about $600.
"We have the ability to offer quality products from internationally experienced designers. Our rich history with contemporary styles can give consumers confidence in our furniture," Reyes said in the release.
The first location is on San Antonio's south side in the South Park Mall.
Company officials were not available for comment last week.
