MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - Industry veteran Dan Weare has joined Mega Group in the newly created position of senior merchandise manager.
Weare will be a member of the buying group's retail systems segment and will be responsible for merchandising and strategic development of its Promotional Networks and Evolution Network subgroup.
Evolution includes several large independent retailers such as Stoney Creek Furniture, Bennett's Home Furnishings, Decorium, Germain Larivière and Les Galeries du Meuble.
He will report to Dean Wake, general manager of retail systems, and will be based at Mega's merchandising office here.
Weare is best known for his 30-year tenure at Sears Canada, where he spent over 20 years in its furniture business. As national merchandise manager of furniture for the publicly held department store, he developed the Sears Home store network, which currently has 50 units across the country. He also redeveloped the furniture and mattress program across the company's other channels of distribution including department stores and independent dealer stores as well as the catalogue and website.
He also was part of the strategic planning team that led to Sears Canada's acquisition of Cantrex Group in 2005.
"He brings a wealth of expertise and experience in both management and retail to his new role," Wake said.
