Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, July 19, 2011
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - Some 31 furniture and home furnishings resources with permanent showrooms in and around the International Centre here will open when the 2011 edition of the Toronto Summer Furniture Show kicks off its four-day run on Aug. 6.
Organized by the Canadian Home Furnishings Alliance, the TSFS is the only mid-year furniture industry event held in Canada.
For the first time in a number of years, the show will run for four days, beginning on a Saturday and ending the following Tuesday, Aug. 9, with the annual CHFA Golf Classic. In recent years, TSFS has been a two- or three-day event.
At least five new participants will take part in this year's event, including casual dining powerhouse Canadel Furniture, solid wood bedroom specialist Durham Furniture, full-line resource Furniture Brands Canada, wall art and accessory resource Ren-Will and mattress specialist Springwall Sleep Products.
Several notable names from previous summer shows will be missing this year, including case goods specialists Villageois and West Bros. as well as mattress maker King Koil Canada, mattress and upholstery producer Therapedic Toronto/Crown Design Upholstery, and full-line importer Eztia. Hanover, Ontario- based West Bros. recently vacated its permanent showroom in the SOFA annex of the International Centre.
To date, TSFS participants with showrooms in the SOFA annex (Source of Furniture & Accessories) of the International Centre include:
A.P. Inds., Artage International, Buhler Furniture, Canadel Furniture, Dine-Art, Durham Furniture, El Ran Furniture, Marcantonio Design, Ren-Will, Sunset Lamp and Via (Les Meubles).
Those with permanent showrooms in the area surrounding the International Centre include:
Brentwood Classics, Campio Furniture, Edgewood Furniture, Furniture Brands Canada, Future Chair, Kingsdown Sleep Systems, Korson Furniture Design, Kwality Imports, Leather Living Furniture, Mazin Furniture Inds., Perri Fine Furniture, Serta Toronto/Star Bedding Products, Springwall Sleep Products, Springwater Woodcraft, Statum Designs, Superstyle Furniture, including its sister companies Trend-Line and Simmons Upholstery Canada, and Zsemba Apron & Upholstery and its Comfy Kids division.
A list of showrooms and their locations is online at http://chfaweb.ca/tsfs-exhibitors. html.
As has been the practice for the past several years, TSFS will run in concert with the Canadian Gift & Tableware Assn.'s summer show, which will be held Aug. 7-10 at the International Centre and the nearby Toronto Congress Centre.
TSFS traditionally attracts independent retailers from Ontario and Atlantic Canada. Cantrex is also expected to hold a regional meeting for its furniture, mattress and appliance selling members in Toronto just before the show.
"This is a great way for independent retailers to freshen their floors for the fall selling season," said CHFA Chairman Laine Reynolds, adding that many independent retailers in eastern Canada don't travel to the big markets in High Point or Las Vegas and need an opportunity to source new goods for the key fall selling season.
The CHFA Golf Classic on Aug. 9 will be played for the second consecutive year at the Caledon Woods Golf Club in Bolton, Ontario. Lunch will be served beginning at 11 a.m. following by a shotgun tee-off at 1 p.m. The tournament will end with dinner at 5:30 p.m
