Walker seals land deal for 2nd Las Vegas superstore

LAS VEGAS — Walker Furniture has finalized a deal on about 14 acres of land in southwest Las Vegas, making its plans for a second superstore here official.

On the property, off the Interstate 215 Beltway and Sunset Road next to Ikea, the Top 100 company has plans for an approximately 200,000-square-foot development, it said — 150,000-square-feet for its new showroom and the remaining space carved out for other retail and dining businesses.

Walker hopes to break ground in September or October and previously said its goal is to open in the first half of 2018. At 150,000-square-feet the new store would be larger than the 100,000- to 120,000-square-foot showroom the retailer was tentatively planning and will rival its main 160,000-square-foot campus near downtown, about 18 miles northeast of the new development.

“People have been asking us for years to build another store in addition to our main location on MLK where business is thriving,” CEO Larry Alterwitz said in a release. “I feel the city is ripe for another location. The new super store together with our downtown super store will make us ultra-convenient to the whole city.”
