HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — El Dorado Furniture was honored Thursday as the 2011 Florida Retailer of the Year by the Florida Home Furnishings Representatives Assn. during a luncheon at Bongos Cuban Café at Hard Rock Hollywood Casino here.
The award, presented posthumously to El Dorado founder Manuel Capó, is given to business people who have distinguished themselves through management expertise and innovation in the Florida furniture industry, according to the FHFRA.
"El Dorado has shown growth during hard economic times, spreading into other counties," said Scot Barten, president, FHFRA. "It was an easy decision for us as a group to make."
Founded in 1967, El Dorado Furniture is the largest Hispanic-owned furniture retailer in the United States. The family-owned company has 12 stores in south Florida and is known for its Boulevard showrooms, which allow customers to view numerous facades displaying different styles of furniture.
