Kingsdown in Gel With Blu-Tek
David Perry -- Furniture Today, August 24, 2011
LAS VEGAS - Top 10 bedding producer Kingsdown has entered the gel category with its new Blu-Tek mattress line, which the company said was well received at the Las Vegas Market.
The company said the new line takes the best in air flow technology and puts it into memory foam mattresses. The line, available in several comfort feels and firmnesses, features gel, latex, memory foam and conventional foams. Retails start at $1,499.
Kingsdown officials said the gel in the line offers unique cooling and comfort characteristics. They said the line provides a solution to "an age old issue in the specialty sleep category" - sleeping hot on memory foam.
The officials said the four-step Cool Support Technology process allows the Blu-Tek beds to sleep cooler than conventional foam mattresses.
A horizontal channel cut design allows air to move freely through the mattress, while a vertical pinhole design in the ProSupport Plus layer allows warmer air to channel up and out of the mattress. The pinhole design of the edge support rail allows horizontal air flow and ventilation of the mattress core, and the mattress cover has a permeable border fabric that allows cross ventilation of the mattress core, the company said.
"Our commitment to sleep research and science has culminated in the industry's newest foam line," said Bob Hellyer, Kingsdown's president. "While individually, some of these technologies have been on the market for several years, we've successfully fused the best benefits of each and used new cutting edge research and technology to eliminate some of the most discussed problems in the industry."
One of the models in the line features a latex/gel/memory foam combination.
