Lane adds QR codes to new home entertainment line
Will give consumers more product information
Larry Thomas -- Furniture Today, August 26, 2011
TUPELO, Miss. — Lane, which unveiled an expanded home entertainment seating and case goods program at the recent Las Vegas Market, has implemented QR technology on all hang tags and supporting materials for the new product line. The new technology employs a matrix barcode that can be read by QR (quick response) readers, smartphones and tablet PCs.
Once the QR tags are read by the device, the user is sent details on product features, styling, fabric availability and dimensions.
"On the retail floor, it is vital to make the consumer shopping experience as easy as possible," said Lane President Greg Roy. "By incorporating QR codes on our products, consumers can quickly get all the information the need right on their smartphone to help them make their purchase decision."
Roy said the company plans to incorporate QR codes on all future product launches.
In conjunction with the new technology, he said Lane's national sales force recently received iPads that included access to a dedicated website that has all the company's marketing and sales materials.
The iPads eliminate the need for the traditional three-ring binder carried by most sales reps.
