Husband of slain Ashley Furniture HomeStores employee files suit
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, September 2, 2011
SAN ANTONIO — The husband of Aileen Harbidge, an Ashley Furniture HomeStores employee shot and killed at the store here in May, has filed a wrongful death suit against the HomeStores licensee.
An online report by the San Antonio Express-News said the suit alleges that the store and its parent company were aware that Harbidge, 27, had been threatened and assaulted by another employee, Jose Martinez, who is in jail on the murder charge.
The suit against Hill Country Furniture Partners also claims the store manager loaned a gun to Martinez, who said he wanted to test it before buying one of his own.
Company executives could not be reached immediately for comment. Hill Country Holdings, based in New Braunfels, Texas, is No. 37 on Furniture/Today's Top 100 with estimated furniture, bedding and accessories sales of $167.7 million at 21 stores in 2010.
