Circle Will Open in Boston's Back Bay
Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, September 8, 2011
BOSTON - Circle Furniture will open its first downtown location here later this year, a 5,000-square-foot store in the Back Bay area.
The showroom will be about half the typical size of its other Circle stores, so the assortment will be edited, said Peggy Burns, co-owner of the five-store, Acton, Mass.-based retailer.
"We're very excited to finally have a downtown location in the heart of the most fabulous city in the country," Burns said, adding that the store should be open by Thanksgiving.
"The city needs a furniture store (in Circle's price range)," she said, noting that there are only higher-end boutique-type furniture stores nearby. Downtown Boston is thriving with residents, "tons of condos and brownstones," Burns said.
She wouldn't disclose the company's investment, noting only that it was sizable. Nor would she project sales for the store. But Burns said, "We're planning on doing a huge business" - a necessity given the higher rents commanded by downtown real estate.
While the store's upper middle-price assortment will be scaled back a bit, it still will feature top suppliers including Ekornes, American Leather, Norwalk, Lee Inds. and Copeland. Case goods will come largely from New England-based manufacturers.
Circle Furniture's closest location is in the western suburb of Cambridge, across the Charles River from downtown.
