Sunbelt Furniture Xpress expanding Hickory, N.C., cross-dock facility

HICKORY, N.C. — Specialized furniture carrier SunBelt Furniture Xpress has broken ground on a 17,000-square-foot expansion of its cross-dock facility here.
When the work is finished in November, the company will have 130,000 square feet of warehouse and office space at its main operation.
The warehouse expansion comes on the heels of the company's recent purchase of 30 53-foot trailers from Utility Trailer Co. and an ongoing tractor replacement and upgrade program.
Stan Froneberger, vice president of sales and marketing, said the local tractor fleet will be completely replaced by the end of the year with late-model Freightliner and International tractors. Many long-haul units also are being upgraded, he said.
SunBelt offers truckload and less-than-truckload pickup and delivery services to a 33-state area. The company has pick-up centers in North Carolina, Virginia, Indiana, Texas and California.
