Lexington Takes Space at N.Y. Design Center

Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, September 16, 2011

NEW YORK - As part of its efforts to grow its business with the design trade, Lexington Home Brands is opening a showroom in the New York Design Center this fall.
The 10,000-square foot space, which opens Nov. 1, is on the second floor of the facility at 200 Lexington Ave., next to Century Furniture and Grange Furniture. It will have a new storefront design and a café and hospitality area.
This is the second company- owned design trade showroom, after a 5,000- square-foot space that opened in Denver Design District in 2008.
Lexington Home Brands President and CEO Phil Haney said that traditional retail remains the company's primary distribution channel, but the design trade is a growing part of the business.
"This serves to validate the strength and significance of this distribution channel," he added.
"It also validates our strategic decision to elevate the styling and sophistication of the Lexington product line.... We're providing high-end design at moderate price points. It's really resonating with designers."
Each of the company's brands will be represented in the space, including Lexington, Tommy Bahama Home and Henry Link Trading Co.
Lexington also is using technology to better utilize a space that is smaller than its 100,000-square-foot showroom in Thomasville, N.C., and its 25,000-square-foot space in Las Vegas.
Haney said the use of touch screen monitors that search and display the product line with imagery and video, combined with the company's iPad app, will help Lexington to make efficient use of the design center footprint.
Lexington is planning a grand opening party on Dec. 8.
