Fine Furniture launches water-based finishes

Armour water-based, stain resistant finishes are standard in wood line

HIGH POINT – Case goods and upholstery manufacturer Fine Furniture Design has recently made its water-based and stain-resistant Armour finishes standard on all its wood products.

Company parent Fine Furniture Shanghai recently completed a full scale conversion of the finish line in its Shanghai plant to water based finishes that the company said are environmentally friendly and more durable than oil-based finishes.

The company recently tested the finishes by applying ketchup, wine and nail polish remover on the finishes. After 24 hours, it removed them by simply wiping them away with a water dampened cloth, a process that was depicted in a time-lapse video shown on the company’s website.

“After scouring the industry to find the highest quality finishing materials available, our engineering team developed an exclusive technique for applying it in our factory,” said Eric Graham, president of Fine Furniture Design. “The result is a custom-built, state-of-the-art production line that applies the protective finish at every stage, from the wood grain to the top coat.”

“Fine Furniture Armour has a hardness to it that can’t be found ‘off the shelf,’” he added. “Our engineering team worked tirelessly – from the research and planning stages through installation and testing – to achieve this innovative new finish, which not only provides environmental benefits, but also remarkable durability and clarity.”

The company will be showing the video and a number of other marketing materials in the coming months to promote Fine Furniture Armour with its retail partners. The marketing materials include showroom signage, trade advertisements, sales materials, tear sheets and other retail point of sales tools.

I'm Tom Russell and have worked at Furniture/Today since August 2003. Since then, I have covered the international side of the business from a logistics and sourcing standpoint. Since then, I also have visited several furniture trade shows and manufacturing plants in Asia, which has helped me gain perspective about the industry in that part of the world. As I continue covering the import side of the business, I look forward to building on that knowledge base through conversations with industry officials and future overseas plant tours. From time to time, I will file news and other industry perspectives online and, as always, welcome your response to these Web postings.
