SSB: Steinhoff not acquiring the company

ATLANTA — Heard the rumor that Steinhoff has acquired Serta Simmons Bedding?

It’s just that — a rumor, SSB CEO Michael Traub says.

Traub told Furniture Today that his phone has been buzzing with callers asking about the rumor, which made the rounds at the recent High Point Market. And he wanted to send a clear message: SSB has not been acquired by Steinhoff and is not talking to Steinhoff about an acquisition.

“SSB has forged a strong relationship with Steinhoff and Mattress Firm, and we are excited about our expanded strategic partnership and new products we are introducing to the market from our best-selling brands, Serta and Beautyrest,” Traub said in a statement.

“We are aware of market rumors regarding our ownership structure and want to unequivocally state that we are not engaged in acquisition discussions with Steinhoff and are not aware of any imminent plans by Advent to divest of their ownership,” he continued. “We are focused on running our business: meeting all our customer commitments and strongly supporting all our retail customers, and assuring successful new product launches.”

Traub took the unusual step of addressing the rumors given the intensity of those reports and a desire to prevent the rumors from becoming a significant distraction to the company, he said.
