Jordan's Furniture promises free furniture for Stanley Cup win
Boston Bruins victory would trigger rebates

TAUNTON, Mass. — Jordan's Furniture is promising free furniture to customers if the Boston Bruins win the 2012 National Hockey League championships.
Customers who buy sofas, sectionals, dining room tables, beds, mattresses and rugs beginning through Oct. 30 will receive rebates for these goods if the Bruins win the Stanley Cup next spring, the retailer said. The purchases can be made in any of the Boston-area retailer's four stores or online.
This is at least the second industry-tied hockey Stanley Cup promotion announced by a furniture retailer this year. Earlier, Buffalo, N.Y.-based FWS Home Furnishings promised free furniture to participating customers should the Buffalo Sabres take home the trophy.
In 2007, Jordan's ran a similar promotion promising rebates if the Boston Red Sox won the World Series - which they did. "We gave 25,000 families over $30 million worth of furniture, and mattresses for free," Jordan's CEO and President Eliot Tatelman said in a release.
Jordan's also ran a "Monster Hit" promotion during this year's baseball season, promising free furniture if a Boston player hit the Jordan's sign in Fenway Park's outfield between July 15 and Oct. 3. None did, but if any player had hit the sign, Jordan's said it would have rebated $40 million in purchases to more than 25,000 families.
The company has not disclosed how it insures the promotions.
The odds for Jordan's customers during the hockey promotion may be a little better. The Bruins won the 2011 Stanley Cup and a repeat winner is not unheard of.
"With so many players back from last year's championship team, we are very hopeful that the Bruins can bring home the trophy again," Tatelman said.
