Former Lance Transport owners acquire Mississippi Furniture Xpress

Will convert company to LTL carrier serving Southeast

Larry Thomas -- Furniture Today, October 10, 2011

HOUSTON, Miss. — The former owners of specialized furniture carrier Lance Transport have purchased Mississippi Furniture Xpress and plan to covert the company to a less-than-truckload carrier serving 12 Southeastern states.

Greg Skoog, former president of Lance Transport, is now president of MFX, while Alan Dietz, former vice president of Lance, has taken the same post at MFX and will oversee sales and marketing.

Skoog said MFX has terminals in Houston and Hickory, N.C., and would begin manufacturer pickups the week of Oct. 17.

"We are extremely happy to once again service the furniture industry in the Southeast," he said. "It is apparent with recent events in our industry that we need to get back to focused regional carriers offering personalized service. Our two terminals located in the heart of furniture production afford us the freight density to assure fast, clean deliveries at competitive rates."

Skoog and Dietz made the MFX purchase along with former Lance executive Dinah Cruse, who will be the company's chief financial officer.

The group sold Lance Transport to Furniture Transport Group in February 2009, but FTG ceased operations last month and began liquidating its assets.

"We feel extremely fortunate that key employees at both terminals have been retained and are excited to be reunited under MFX," Cruse said. "This retention of talent will give our customers a seamless transition as we begin operations."
