Ikea is not behind its Amazon listings

HIGH POINT — While Ikea’s products have been showing up on the Amazon marketplace this week, the Swedish home furnishings giant says it hasn’t anything to do with it.

Earlier this month, Ikea confirmed reports that it would begin testing sales on a third-party websites as part of an ongoing initiative to build its e-commerce presence. The retailer said it hasn’t decided yet what products it would sell in what markets and on what platforms and that the pilot programs wouldn’t begin until the coming year.

Ikea stands by that statement, even though several of its desks, bookcases and other items are now listed on Amazon.

“Yes, we are aware of this, and it is not by initiative from Ikea,” the retailer said in an email to Furniture Today. “We, of course, prefer that customers buy Ikea products from us in our sales channels or through channels we choose.”

Amazon has not responded to requests for more information.
