Crawford restarts factory, will close stores

Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, October 14, 2011

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Case goods producer Crawford Furniture will close its five retail stores in this area but has resumed its manufacturing operations, the Buffalo News reported last week.
Brett Cappa, regional manager for Crawford, said the company continues to sell to about 200 furniture retailers around the nation. Outstanding orders, some of which have been on hold for several months, will be filled within 30 days, he said.
Production at the company's Jamestown factory, which shut down in August, restarted Oct. 3 with 100 laid-off workers called back to the job, the Buffalo News said.
Going-out-of-business sales began Thursday at the five stores. Liquidation company Hoyt Highfill and Associates is running the sale.
Crawford, a 127-year-old manufacturer of solid wood furniture, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Aug. 25.
