Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, October 14, 2011

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. — Nationwide Marketing Group buying group has promoted Bill Bazemore to vice president of furniture.

He formerly was executive director of the furniture, electronics and appliances buying group's Furniture Smart division.

Bazemore has worked in the industry for 34 years, working in a warehouse while in college. He has been a credit manager, store manager and a buyer and was vice president of the former Retail Stores Service buying group out of Baltimore. Bazemore was general manager of retail operations for Eastman House and later operated a sales and distribution company before joining Nationwide in 1999.

Nationwide said that in the past five years, the annual buying power of its furniture division has doubled to more than $1.5 billion. Membership has increased by 609 companies to more than 1,500 companies with more than 2,700 stores selling furniture.

"To provide the level of service that we do today, we must understand how a retailer operates," Nationwide CEO Robert Weisner said in a release. "The kind of experience Bill brings to our organization can't be taught. Either you have it or you don't. That's why he is such a valuable member of our executive management team and has been charged with supporting our current members and introducing services to new furniture dealers across the U.S."

Nationwide will be showing in the National Home Furnishings Assn.'s Retailer Resource Center in Plaza Suites during the High Point Market, Oct. 22-27.
