Kincaid Furniture to use eco-friendly Renew foam

HIGH POINT — Kincaid Furniture will introduce eco-friendly cushions to its new upholstery offerings this market using Renew, a foam process created by the Carpenter Co.
In addition, the company said all upholstery in its existing line will include Renew cushions, effective immediately. There will be no additional charge for the upgrade.
The company said the Renew process reduces environmental impact utilizing soy-based polyol in Carpenter's Natural Foam Technology process. The cushions are free of the harmful chemicals PBDEs and CFCs, and are recyclable.
"We have a company-wide commitment to produce furnishings that meet or exceed current and future standards for environmental stewardship," said Steve Kincaid, the company's president. "Including Renew cushioning is the next step in a rigorous but satisfying process to live up to that pledge."
Steve Beeker, Kincaid's vice president of upholstery sales and merchandising, said, "The Carpenter Co. has created an exceptionally comfortable and durable cushion that, aside from all its positive environmental attributes, is a great product. When you add in the eco-performance qualities, Renew is virtually unrivaled in our industry."
He said the company is transitioning into the new cushioning now and upholstery incorporating the new process will be shipped within the next couple of weeks.
Kincaid has achieved both the EFEC (Enhancing Furniture's Environmental Culture) and Sustainable by Design designations for the American Home Furnishings Alliance. These audited ongoing processes require organizations to address and maintain environmental management programs at individual facilities and throughout their global supply chain.
Companies that have fully implemented both EFEC and Sustainable by Design can then submit products for evaluation and registration in a program known as Eco3Home by providing detailed health, safety and environmental measurement for each item.
To date, Kincaid said it is the only company to have successfully submitted products for Eco3Home registration, its Homecoming collection. Additional collections are in the review process for Eco3Home registration.
