Lambeth donates furniture to newly renovated Furniture Library

HIGH POINT — Rod Lambeth of manufacturer Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth has donated furnishings for the first floor of the newly renovated Bernice Bienenstock Furniture Library here in memory of his parents, James Erwin Lambeth Jr. and Dr. Katharine Covington Lambeth, library officials announced.
"The library appreciates this generous gift from Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth," said Charles Sutton, president of the Furniture Library. "The Lambeths' dedication and support of the library was invaluable and this is a wonderful way to remember their legacy in the furniture industry."
The library at 1009 N. Main St. here will reopen Oct. 22, the opening day of the High Point Market.
Jim and Kay Lambeth, who founded Erwin Lambeth in 1946, were close friends of the furniture library's founders, Sandy and Bernice Bienenstock. Kay Lambeth was one of the few female CEOs of a furniture manufacturing and design operation at the time.
"My mother was unique in that she built the business and ran it from her heart. Her dedication to the furniture industry and the consumer was always unmatched," said Rod Lambeth, the current president and CEO.
The furniture pieces included in the donation are from Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth and its sister brands, Directional and Carter Furniture. The company offers products by nationally known designers such as Larry Laslo, Michael Wolk, Barry Dixon, Rob Jones and Vladimir Kagan.
The library will be open every day of market, Oct. 22-27, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will host tours for interested visitors anytime during operating hours. After market, the library will return to its regular operating hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and will continue to provide tours as requested.
The library's renovations, done by Freeman Kennett Architect Firm in High Point, include updated research areas and permanent collection placement as well as an updated book sale space.
Also, the library has a large meeting room for use by the furniture and design industries. Colleges, universities and industry organizations may inquire about using the space for lectures, research, conferences and meetings. For more information on the library, visit www.furniturelibrary.com.
