SUFFERN, N.Y. — The Metropolitan Furnishings Assn. of New Jersey and the Greater New York Home Furnishings Assn. will recognize four industry veterans during their second annual joint Awards Dinner and Dance gala, set for Saturday, Dec. 3.
This year's honorees are Patrick Cory of Cory 1st Choice Home Delivery, Edward Massood of Thomasville Home Furnishings of New Jersey, Brad Pyne of AICO and Russell Bienenstock of Furniture World Magazine.
"This year, we have four hometown honorees who give freely of their time, energy and enthusiasm year after year to support the furniture business, industry associations and furniture-related charitable causes in our local Northeast trading area as well as nationally," said Abraham Feinblum, president of the Greater New York Home Furnishings Assn.
Massood, president and chief operating officer at Thomasville Home Furnishings of New Jersey, will receive the Jerry Gans Memorial Award, given by the Greater NY HFA. The award goes to a person who has distinguished himself with deeds and service.
Massood began his career with his family-owned MGM Transport in the 1970s. He and his brother opened their first Thomasville store in Virginia in 2001. The Massoods sold MGM in 2007, and Edward Massood returned to New Jersey to focus on the Thomasville business.
Cory, managing partner at the family-owned Cory 1st, will receive the Howard Liveright Memorial Award, given by the MFA of N.J. The award honors a person who has made outstanding contributions in the industry.
Cory began working part time with the company in 1981 and became a full-time driver in 1991. He left briefly in the mid 1990s to work as a sales associate for retailer Rooms To Go before returning to Cory 1st in 1999.
Bienenstock, editor in chief and CEO of Furniture World Magazine, and Pyne, who currently represents AICO and Synergy Home Furnishings, will receive the Charles B. Costar Dean of IHFRA Award, which is given to individuals who have set an example in the industry through service and dedication to IHFRA and their chapter.
Bienenstock, who was selected by the Greater NY HFA, is active on several boards in the industry, including the American Furniture Hall of Fame and the City of Hope's National Home Furnishing Industry. Pyne, chosen by the MFA of N.J., is a member of the New York and New Jersey associations and has been named a certified home furnishings representative by IHFRA.
The gala will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel here. For more information, contact Alan Granetz of the MFA of N.J. at (908) 725-3460 or metrofurnassoc@gmail.com.
