N.C. trucking firms team up for Fla. deliveries
Larry Thomas -- Furniture Today, October 28, 2011
NEWTON, N.C. - Andrew De-Hart, former owner of specialized furniture carrier Foothills Trucking, has formed a partnership with Brooks Furniture Xpress, a carrier that provides service to Florida.
Under terms of their partnership, Brooks will utilize a terminal in Newton that is owned by BD&D Trucking, a company owned by DeHart, for Florida deliveries.
DeHart, in turn, will oversee sales and operations for Brooks Furniture Xpress.
"We're trying to re-create the Foothills model and build on what made it successful," DeHart said.
Foothills was part of Furniture Transport Group, which was the largest specialized furniture carrier when it ceased operations last month and began liquidating its assets.
BFX, which specializes in less-than-truckload deliveries, was founded in 1999 by Anthony Brooks and his wife, Cindy. They have more than 25 years experience in the trucking industry, and Anthony Brooks was once an owner-operator for DeHart at Foothills.
DeHart is the second former owner of a Furniture Transport Group company to jump back into the specialized furniture carrier business since FTG's demise. The former owners of Lance Transport, Greg Skoog, Alan Dietz and Dinah Cruse, announced last week they had purchased Mississippi Furniture Xpress and plan to operate that company out of terminals in Mississippi and North Carolina.
