WINFIELD, W. Va. — Bedding specialty retailer Innovative Mattress Solutions has added 16 stores with the purchase of Nashville, Tenn.-based Mattresses Unlimited.
Kim Knopf, CEO of IMS, said the deal was concluded Oct. 26.
The acquisition will boost IMS' presence in the Louisville, Ky., market and will mark its entry into the state of Tennessee, the company said.
IMS, which does business in Louisville under the Sleep Outfitters name, currently has 14 stores in that market, while Mattresses Unlimited has seven stores there. Mattresses Unlimited also operated nine stores in Nashville.
"We are very pleased to expand our company's presence in the Louisville market, my hometown, and the opportunity to enter the Nashville market is particularly exciting," Knopf said.
With the acquisition, IMS has 120 stores in five states. Privately held IMS does business as Sleep Outfitters and Mattress Warehouse and has stores in West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. The company opened its first store in South Charleston, W.Va., in 1983.
Mattress vendors at IMS include Sealy, Simmons, Stearns & Foster and Tempur-Pedic. The retailer also carries Tempur-Pedic and Ergo Motion adjustable bed bases, Protect-A-Bed mattress protectors, DreamFit sheets, and memory foam pillows by Tempur-Pedic and others.
