Standard Furniture named one of Alabama's top retailers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Standard Furniture has been named one of the top retailers of the year by the Alabama Retail Assn.
Standard, which has been in business since 1912 and operates 12 stores in Alabama and one in Tennessee, received the Silver Award in the category for annual sales of $5 million to $20 million.
The family-owned store is run by Stuart Shevin, who has been president for 33 years. Other key executives include Shevin's son, Jacob; Mark Crayne, executive vice president of sales, and Greg Troncale, vice president of operations.
Standard's sales have grown 5% during the past year, and the retailer has opened two Mattress Loft bedding galleries within its stores with plans to add more, the association said. On it entry form, the retailer noted that it has focused on training, and said sales associates track the number of customers in the showroom, the number making purchases and the average ticket.
Stuart Shevin is a past president of the National Home Furnishings Assn. and a member of the Alabama Retail Assn.'s board of directors.
