Werner Freundel, previously director of merchandising, is now country manager and director of business in China, a new position. He reports to CEO Harvey Dondero and will develop and service the growing China market, establishing a business office in the new Theodore Alexander showroom in Shanghai.
Meera Kakar has been named regional sales manager for the Indian market, also a new position. She most recently was a business development manager at a global real estate company and was a promoter of Indian fine arts, the company said.
Kakar reports to David Parker, vice president of international sales, and will work with key retailers in India to help enhance awareness and sales of the Theodore Alexander brand. She also will handle business development within the country.
Also reporting to Parker is Dinara Reziapova, who was named regional sales manager for Russia and Eastern Europe in December 2010.
"We have a well-established network of distributors and retailers in a number of key global markets and the list is expanding," Dondero said in a statement. "In addition to these three new positions covering China, India, Russia and Eastern Europe, we are looking at other important international markets to see which could best be served by having a Theodore Alexander business presence. These appointments will help us continue building our very strong global brand with wide international appeal."
Lizzy Freundel, director of communications and innovation for Theodore Alexander, will continue in her current role. As part of that role, she will develop the company's online presence, including social media opportunities.
In a related announcement, the company said it is opening a 10,000-square-foot showroom at its Vietnam headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City. The facility, expected to open next spring, will be convenient for Middle Eastern and Asian customers, Dondero said.
