Offerings abound in bedding arena

David Perry -- Furniture Today, November 4, 2011

HIGH POINT - New innerspring and specialty sleep beds are being featured in mattress showrooms here as bedding producers roll out lines at a wide variety of price points.
The new models retail from $299 to more than $2,000 and will give retailers many choices for fall promotions.
Many of the bedding lines being shown here debuted at the recent Las Vegas Market, but there are some new offerings as well. And producers say they will be using this market to introduce their lines to new groups of buyers.
Sealy is introducing its new innerspring Stearns & Foster collection, offered in three lines, while Simmons exhibits its new specialty bedding ComforPedic Loft line. Serta is showing its expanded iComfort line of gel memory foam and gel latex beds.
International Bedding is showing a new topper program that offers a choice of two or three inches of Talalay latex in firm or plush feels. Retails range from $399 to $499.
International Bedding is also showing new Europa models, retailing from $799 to $1,599, and value-priced American-Pedic and Classic lines retailing from $399 to $899.
Therapedic is entering the gel category and is also showing its environmental-minded EcoTouch line of beds, its first entry into the "green" bedding category.
Spring Air, showing in the Specialty Sleep Assn. space, is featuring its new BioMax specialty sleep line, which carries Level II certification from the SSA's Environmental & Safety Program.
Restonic is showcasing its HealthRest specialty sleep line, with latex and memory foam beds, and also rolls out a line of hybrid beds featuring individually wrapped coils and a combination of latex and memory foam.
And Restonic's new ComfortCare Select line, featuring 800 individually wrapped coils and the company's trademark Marvelous Middle design, retails from $699 to $1,199.
Jamison has repositioned its company and is making an aggressive product rollout here. In addition to its Gel Comfort line, the producer is debuting a new innerspring line, Vita Pedic, and a new latex line, the Talalatex Conformer line.
The company revamped its Vita Pedic line into a two-sided innerspring collection of nine models. "We still have many retail customers who sell twosided products," said Ken Hinman, senior vice president of sales and marketing. "But we're also hearing from stores that offer only one-sided mattresses and now want to expand their selling options."
The Conformer line uses Talalay latex layers over either a Talalay latex core or a poly foam core. All of the mattresses can be paired with one of three Jamison adjustable bases.
Two-sided beds are also part of the story at Gold Bond, which is showing its redesigned Premier Series of two-sided beds.
"We are seeing an increase in our innerspring mattress sales because not only have our high quality standards remained the same, we also have the right product across all price points," said Bob Naboicheck, president of Gold Bond. "Even with our top Premier model priced at $1,899, retailers are able to make a better sale because of the greater margins they offer, particularly over the ‘S' brands."
Paramount Sleep is touting its HD (Heavy Duty) line, which it says offers an advanced support system and comfort layers that mold to the shape of the body for proper spinal alignment.
South Bay International is showing its new Black Diamond Bamboo Charcoal Visco mattress, retailing at $799, while Hickory at Home is showing a number of new adjustable beds.
Solstice Sleep Products enters the High Point market with an assortment of domestically produced and imported sleep sets. The lineup includes a number of innerspring and memory foam models, at retails ranging from $299 to $1,599.
Carolina Mattress Guild offers new latex beds and has redesigned its G series of memory foam beds. The producer also has a topper offering - a latex model retailing for $499.
Enso Sleep Systems sharpens its pencil with a new starting price, $399, designed to give retailers ammunition for bedding promotions. It has a number of other new memory foam beds, including one that offers massage functions.
