No-Sag plant achieves EFEC environmental standard
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 4, 2011
KENDALLVILLE, Ind. — Leggett & Platt said its No-Sag Products branch here has met the registration standards of Enhancing Furniture's Environmental Culture, the American Home Furnishings Alliance program created to advance the industry's environmental performance.
EFEC is a voluntary environmental management system. EFEC registration requires a company to analyze the environmental impact of its operations, raw materials and finished products on a facility-by-facility basis.
Benefits of the program include better management of resources and raw materials, reduced energy and water consumption, reduced waste disposal and associated costs, and improved overall operational performance and efficiency, officials said.
"No-Sag's employees often supply the most creative and effective way to leverage benefits," said Russ Dunton, Leggett & Platt branch manager at No-Sag Products.
L&P said the plant reduced trash pickup frequency by 75%, resized the tempering oven to reduce gas usage, worked with suppliers on packaging-reuse initiatives, and donated recycling money and supplies to local charities and schools, he said.
No-Sag Products also was honored with a 2011 Indiana Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence in the category of reuse and recycling, officials noted.
No-Sag Products, part of the home furnishings division of Leggett & Platt, has been manufacturing in Kendallville since 1948 and has 85 employees there.
