Jensen-Lewis adds second Manhattan store
Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, November 5, 2011
NEW YORK - Contemporary home furnishings retailer Jensen-Lewis has expanded to a second Manhattan location on the Upper East Side with an edited assortment.
The retailer opened an 11,000-square-foot showroom in a former Door Store at 969 Third Ave.
With accredited designers on staff, the midpriced to high-end store features a Calligaris Shop as well as other key suppliers carried at its 17,000-square-foot Chelsea flagship store a few miles away, including American Leather, BDI, Della Robbia, Copeland Furniture and Stressless by Ekornes.
"Our goal is to sell the best that contemporary has to offer while still catering to space and budget conscious New Yorkers," said Jim Ehrenthal, Jensen-Lewis vice president. "Most furniture isn't designed for New York apartments with real spatial living constraints. Our furniture is catered specifically to this market where efficiency does matter."
The new store is in New York's design district, one block south of Bloomingdale's. Ehrenthal said it has been enthusiastically received since its Sept. 17 opening, but declined to disclose sales or projections.
The retailer said everything on display in the new showroom also is in stock as shown, and that the company offers nationwide white-glove delivery for those with homes outside the Tri-State area.
Ehrenthal said the timing is right for Jensen-Lewis to expand despite the tough economy.
"It's extremely challenging, but with the right business plan and motivation there is still very good business out there," he said. He added, "New York City has been blessed with a more favorable economic climate than other parts of the country."
