Organic's Bader joins Calif. advisory board
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 5, 2011
YUBA CITY, Calif. - Walt Bader, president of Organic Mattresses here, has been appointed to the California Department of Consumer Affairs Advisory Council. The department's Bureau of Home Furnishings and Thermal Insulation is the organization that enforces regulations on health and safety standards for mattresses and upholstered furniture.
The Bureau also audits compliance for the federal mattress flammability standard. And it is planning to address the open-flame hazard of top-of-bed products such as pillows, comforters, bedspreads and mattress pads, according to Bader.
The Bureau also has taken an interest in the area of "green" claims, he said. Organic Mattresses is a leader in the green bedding arena.
"I hope that my involvement will help stave off and mitigate further state and federal regulations by improving the accuracy of information provided to mattress consumers as well as being closely involved with the flammability issues surrounding top-of-bed products," said Bader.
He added that he intends to be an industry resource and advocate for those seeking to understand and work with government agencies.
