FFO Home's 45th set for Ada, Okla.

Snaps up the lease of a shuttered bookseller

ADA, Okla. — FFO Home will open its ninth Oklahoma store here next month — its 45th showroom companywide — as the Top 100 company continues its aggressive expansion push.

The Fort Smith, Ark.-based promotional to mid-priced retailer will hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting event Sept. 9 at the 21,000-square-foot location in the North Hills shopping center on Lonnie Abbot Boulevard.

Key brands include Standard Furniture, United, Broyhill, Flexsteel, Simmons, Serta, the retailer’s own Natural Elements line of mattresses and a new Comfort Home line of upholstery, including motion sofas and recliners, that’s exclusive to the retailer from an unidentified resource.

The Ada store will be FFO Home’s fourth Oklahoma location to open in less than a year and fourth overall store to open so far in 2017, as the company nears a goal of netting eight to 10 new showrooms a year beginning this year.

The retailer was acquired in early 2016 by private equity firm Sun Capital Partners and has been in aggressive expansion mode ever since — opening prototype stores averaging about 24,000 square feet. Each location includes a large warehouse space, making it easy for consumers to buy off the floor and for FFO to quickly replenish goods from suppliers shipping direct to stores.

FFO Home is among the furniture chains benefiting from collapse and consolidation within the broader retail sector, businesses pummeled by e-commerce competition. The Ada location, for instance is the retailer’s second that was formerly occupied by the bankrupt Hastings bookstore chain; FFO also has picked up former OfficeMax and Office Depot locations along the way.

“We look forward to serving the furnishing needs of area residents through our commitment to providing outstanding quality furniture at the guaranteed lowest prices, backed by superior customer service and strong involvement in the communities we serve,” President and CEO Larry Zigerelli said in a release.

FFO Home is No. 73 on Furniture Today’s Top 100 with estimated furniture, bedding and accessory sales of $85.7 million at 41 stores in 2016. The company operates stores primarily in secondary markets in seven states — Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Mississippi and Tennessee
