KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Retailer Bliss Home, based here, has hired industry veteran Terry Johnson as store manager.
Prior to joining Bliss Home, Johnson worked for 26 years as a Bassett Furniture Inds. as a sales representative for Tennessee and then as the company's mid-Atlantic regional manager for four years.
"Bliss Home welcomes Johnson and looks forward to all of his advice and experience to help the customers and patrons of the Bliss Home family," said Molly Eakin, assistant marketing director.
ATLANTA - Rent-to-own retailer Aaron's has elected Cynthia N. Day, senior executive vice president and chief operating officer of Atlantabased Citizens Trust Bank, to its board of directors.
"Cynthia has achieved remarkable success as the first woman to hold a COO position with Citizens Trust," an Aaron's official said. "Her 20-year career in banking and finance is a testament to her keen business sense and will be a tremendous asset to our board. We look forward to drawing upon her expertise as we continue to grow and expand."
Day has been recognized as one of "Atlanta's Top 100 Black Women of Influence" by the Atlanta Business League and one of the Atlanta Tribune's "Wonder Women." She has served on the boards of the National Bankers Assn., the Georgia Society of CPAs, The University of Alabama Continuing Education Advisory Board, the American Liver Foundation and the United Negro College Fund.
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - Easyhome Ltd., Canada's largest merchandise leasing company, has appointed Rod Adams to its board of directors.
Adams has held senior leadership positions in the consumer and commercial finance, mortgage and related industries during the past 30 years, including president and CEO of Beneficial Canada, president of Associates Financial Services of Canada and senior vice president of Home Trust Co.
CHESLEY, Ontario - Solid wood furniture specialist Crate Designs has hired Michel Poirier to represent the company in the province of Quebec.
Poirier, a 24-year industry veteran, will be responsible for expanding Crate Designs' dealer network in the province.
"His experience and enthusiasm makes him the right person to work with our recently translated catalogue in La Belle Province," company President Andrew Schuster said in a statement.
Crate Designs is a full-line manufacturer of mid-priced furniture, serving the retail and contract market since 1906.
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Case goods, dining, accent and lighting vendor Gabby has announced several changes in its sales team.
Christian Given has moved from the Midwest territory to the New England territory, which includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Rhode Island.
Tara Enyeart is new to Gabby and is covering the northern California territory.
Jon Lockman is taking over the Midwest territory, which includes Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri, with the exception of St. Louis, which is still under Tom Hall.
Lynn Thompson, who has been a rep with Gabby for several months, has added Iowa to her territory, which also includes the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.
AUSTIN, Texas - Four Hands, a home furnishings importer and wholesaler based here, has hired industry sales veteran Julie Grothman as its sales representative in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, the District of Columbia and North Carolina.
She will report to Chris Miller, national sales manager.
Before joining Four Hands, Grothman worked for Rowe Fine Furniture for 27 years, covering the Midwest, southern Florida and northern Virginia.
"Julie is a great addition to our team of sales professionals," Miller said. "Bringing 20 years of experience and a proven track record makes her an ideal fit for the culture of our company."
TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. - Renee Smith has joined upper-medium priced upholstery producer Paul Robert as part of the company's furniture and design team.
Smith was previously design director for Drexel Heritage's display planning for nearly 10 years and was responsible for planning, designing and executing Drexel Heritage stores and galleries across the country.
She also worked as a store planner and accessory buyer for a multi-store retailer, and has worked for Isenhour Furniture and Francesco Molon. She is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and has done residential work throughout the Southeastern U.S.
