HANOI, Vietnam — Ashley Furniture HomeStores opened its first licensee-operated store here, one of at least two coming to the country through the middle of next year.
The 70,000-square-foot showroom, operated by Vietnamese businessman David Nguyen, held a grand opening attended by a wave of consumers Nov. 4, following a soft opening two weeks before, said Shari Wagner, Ashley executive vice president, who attended the event.
She said there were about 150 people there for the festivities and that the store has been very busy. She declined to disclose sales or sales projections.
A second store is planned for Ho Chi Minh City in mid-2012 by the same operator, and more are planned after that, though Wagner declined to elaborate. The move follows plans Ashley announced earlier this year to open its first stores in China.
