Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 18, 2011
NAPANEE, Ontario - William Richard "Bill" Roffey, the longtime sales manager for former Canadian case goods producer Gibbard Furniture Shops Ltd., has died at his home here. He was 82.
Roffey became sales manager at Gibbard in the 1960s after a car accident that took the lives of his parents. His father, David Roffey, was Gibbard's general manager and was brother-in-law to the late Jack McPherson, who acquired the company in 1941.
Bill Roffey spent most of his adult life selling Gibbard Furniture and was a sales representative for the company before becoming sales manager. He retired about eight years ago.
"He was a great promoter of Gibbard and was highly regarded by the people he worked with," said Bruce McPherson Jr., who was Gibbard's president when the company went out of business in 2009.
Roffey is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Lennox & Addington Hospital Foundation, the Rotary Foundation or the Alzheimer Society.
