Former sales rep, Gene Severs dies at 81

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sumter Gene Severs, former furniture sales representative, passed away on Aug. 17 just before his 82nd birthday.

Born Aug. 23, 1935, Severs graduated in 1953 from Harding High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy.

He was an accomplished sales representative best known for his service to Best Home Furnishings for more than 30 years in North and South Carolina as well as a key account representative for Havertys. Through the years, Severs represented Bernhardt, Kimbell International, Massoud, Cal-Style, Lifestyle California and Forest Furniture.

He is survived by his wife Bobbie, two sons and three grandchildren.

Services will be held Aug. 20 at Durham Memorial Baptist Church, 1601 Toddville Road, Charlotte, N.C., with visitation at 2 p.m. and the service at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Missionary Athletes International, 1020 Crews Rd. Suite N., Matthews, N.C. 28105.
