Century Furniture, CB2 owner settle suit over trademark infringement

HICKORY, N.C. — High-end case goods and upholstery manufacturer Century Furniture said it has settled a trademark infringement lawsuit against Euromarket Designs Inc., the owner of retailer CB2.
Century filed the suit in May, alleging that CB2 sold a collection named Century that was not made by Century Furniture. The suit claimed that the use of the name was an example of trademark infringement and unfair competition.
The suit sought injunctive relief, asking the company to stop selling the item in question. It also sought an undisclosed amount of monetary damages.
Century did not reveal specifics of the settlement, including how much it received in monetary damages. An attorney representing CB2 was not immediately available for comment.
Century officials said the settlement marks another victory in the company's efforts to protect its brand name. Last year, it settled a similar case against Wal-Mart, Cosco, Accent Furniture Inc. and United Stationers Supply Co. that also alleged the defendants used the Century name to market furniture.
A third case it filed in May against Century Furniture Mfg. in California is still pending.
