Reshoring Initiative survey seeks U.S. policy changes
August 31, 2017,
KILDEER, Ill. — The Reshoring Initiative is encouraging the furniture industry to participate in a new national survey developed to help bring back manufacturing jobs to the U.S.
Manufacturers and distributors can complete the survey online. Survey findings will be shared with the Trump administration, Congress and survey respondents later this year. The survey organizers said the survey takes about 15 minutes to complete and will close at 8:00 p.m. (EDT) on Oct. 20.
According to Reshoring Initiative, for the first time in decades, more manufacturing jobs are returning to the U.S. than are going offshore. However, it estimates about 4 million manufacturing jobs have still been lost to offshoring over the last decades, based on the $500 billion U.S. trade deficit.
The Reshoring Initiative concludes that about 25% of these jobs are reshorable at current levels of U.S. competitiveness. The survey will provide insight into the mix of policy changes needed to reshore the other 75%.
The national survey is a joint project from Reshoring Initiative and Plante Moran, one of the nation's largest accounting, tax and consulting firms.
