Ikea firms up plans for second Denver market store
August 31, 2017,
CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. — Ikea made its plans for a second Denver-area store official, submitting building plans for the 400,000-square-foot store to the city and county of Broomfield, Colo.
Pending approvals, construction could begin next spring with an opening slated for summer 2019.
Ikea said, the store would be built on a 36-acre tract at the northwestern corner of Interstate 25 and State Highway 7, and it could develop the additional land for other commercial, retail and residential use.
Ikea also will evaluate the potential for on-site power generation at the Broomfield location, which would add to its nearly 90% of U.S. locations currently powered by renewable energy sources.
“This Broomfield location would complement the presence established six years ago in Centennial and would provide an Ikea store closer to customers in the northern Front Range,” Ikea U.S. President Lars Petersson said in a release. The Front Range is part of the southern Rocky Mountains located in central Colorado and southeastern Wyoming.
Plans call for a store with the retailer’s nearly 10,000 exclusively designed products; 50 inspirational room settings; three model home interiors; a supervised play area, a 450-seat restaurant; and parking for 1,500 vehicles.
Ikea expects to hire about 300 employees for the store when the construction phase is complete.
